They are the best looking option to making the stock taillights look less hideous. Best of all, they are 30 bucks. Oh yeeeeeaaaaaah guuuuuuurrlll. The problem with aftermarket taillights is that they look aftermarket. This looks OEM as fuck.

I need comparison shots to judge this, but it's a good idea.

eew its like it has cataracts

YOU SHUT YOUR MOUTH!! Although, I was thinking something along these lines.

In this picture at least, they just look like they are old...as in oxidized, but it might look better in person. $30 seems like a lot for a little red vinyl. Seems like you could buy a sheet for $10 and get the same effect without too much work.

This is my friend Tim's setup. I think it looks freakin amazing. It's LED too I think.
![]() 01/22/2014 at 22:53 |

That's better.
![]() 01/22/2014 at 22:53 |

These are aftermarket from a company. I probably could get a sheet of red and just cover the entire taillight, which I think looks better.
![]() 01/22/2014 at 22:53 |

Dat looks awesome! I am pretty set on this now.

I could ask him where he got them if you want to know

of course, the reverse light is cutout for legal reasons...just keep that in mind.

Oh what you want is much better. NP do it.
![]() 01/22/2014 at 22:58 |

Those are turn signals. The reverse lights are at the bottom by the exhaust tips. I am not sure if it is illegal to cover the turn signals.

I would like to know. They are perfect.
![]() 01/22/2014 at 23:00 |

Gotta find something similar like this though on the forums.
![]() 01/22/2014 at 23:01 |

I just asked him. I'll get back to you whenever I get a reply.
![]() 01/22/2014 at 23:03 |

I think most places require turn signals to be amber, so it might be.
![]() 01/22/2014 at 23:04 |

they can be had for around 16~ if you really wanna give them a shot...
![]() 01/22/2014 at 23:13 |

are you buying from bluebat? He uses Orcal, in case your wondering, so thin stuff. And if you have little experience with vinyl, I suggest a tinter. I did mine, and the pass the 5 foot test, but they have ridges if you run your fingers on it (if you know what I mean)
![]() 01/22/2014 at 23:14 |

Damn, chrome won't let me edit. I know how to use the proper form of your, you're
![]() 01/22/2014 at 23:14 |

I am not buying from blue bat. I just got the picture from google. I am just thinking about doing some vinyl. Also, I don't know what you mean.
![]() 01/22/2014 at 23:15 |
|
Oh hell yea. If I had one I'd have it on yesterday.
![]() 01/22/2014 at 23:19 |

Meh, considering my tail lights are tinted around 45% I'd say covering with a transparent film wouldn't be a problem.
![]() 01/22/2014 at 23:22 |
|
The vinyl will stick to itself around curves, even if you heat and stretch, and it looks like the picture, but not as many ridges
![]() 01/22/2014 at 23:29 |
|
A buddy of mine bought this transparent red paint, masked the lights off how he wanted, and painted the clear tails on his STI. It looked phenomenal, and how it should of came from the factory. Might want to try that.
![]() 01/22/2014 at 23:33 |

Black vinyl is how I tinted the lights on my Mustang. I think for every light on my car it was like 60 bucks, and if I ever got tired of it I can peel it right off. I have not gotten tired of it in 4 years :)

Doesn't this impair light performance?

I love me some TOMS
![]() 01/22/2014 at 23:54 |

Hmmmm, don't know if I will like that. There has to be some other cheap options, I can't stand the stock lights.
![]() 01/22/2014 at 23:55 |
|
I saw an STI with these on yesterday. They look fantastic.
![]() 01/22/2014 at 23:56 |

No harm with trying. Losing 16 dollars isn't a big deal. . . alright it is a little bit.
![]() 01/22/2014 at 23:56 |

Aight, thanks!
![]() 01/22/2014 at 23:58 |

Any problems with cops, or do they not care?
![]() 01/23/2014 at 00:09 |
|
They lasted 4 years? How was the quality of the vinyl?
![]() 01/23/2014 at 00:20 |

I think the front turn signals have to amber. I don't think the back matters. My stock Benz has red rear turns.
![]() 01/23/2014 at 00:32 |
|
Ahhh... Pull them taillights out. Those things are so over-rated. You don't need to see where you've been.
![]() 01/23/2014 at 00:33 |
|
Exactly!! You should look ahead not behind. Hopefully, though the people should be able to see them. These look like you can.
![]() 01/23/2014 at 00:58 |

I ended up getting HID's for the headlights because it did make it a pain in the ass. That picture makes the tint on the rear than they actually are, but I haven't been rear ended or gotten any complaints about the tails. They are very visible even during bright sunlight.
![]() 01/23/2014 at 00:59 |
|
Yea 4 years and counting. I believe it is 3M vinyl IIRC. Either way its pretty great. The only thing is there are some spider web "cracks" on the headlights due to the heat from the HID's.
![]() 01/23/2014 at 01:08 |
|
Ah, that sucks, but I am sure nothing anyone will notice. Although, you know, which means you have to fix it.
![]() 01/23/2014 at 01:18 |
|
O just to clear up that phrasing the headlight vinyl has the "cracks." Who knows if the headlight does lol I haven't taken the vinyl off in 4 years! And actually the only time I ever notice is when I am washing the front bumper, it doesn't really bother me much anymore. Besides I have finally told myself to relax if the car doesn't have perfect paint/finish because 1: it is a god damn black car and 2: it is now a track car and there are way too many pock marks to keep worrying about it.
![]() 01/23/2014 at 01:22 |
|
My car has a few minor dents on the door that you only notice when I am washing the car, and a few paint chips on the front bumper as well. No one notices it but it annoys the piss out of me. One of these days, I am going to get these dents removed. There is a big one on the rear wheel arch though, that is just an eye sore. I think I will get it fixed over the summer.
![]() 01/23/2014 at 07:04 |

Yeah, BUT:
-Taillight wrap: 30$ tops
-Tom's: 400++$
Plus, about 50% of the cars I see with aftermarket lights have them set incorrectly or broken.

Been pulled over twice with them on but they didn't say anything either time. Long as it doesn't hinder the light output noticeably you should be good.

Paint using krylon stained glass paint or night shades red.
![]() 01/23/2014 at 13:23 |
|
Can it be done well without going to a "professional" cause that would be an excellent option.
![]() 01/23/2014 at 13:24 |
|
Dat is so much money!! I don't want to spend 500 dollars on lights :'(
![]() 01/23/2014 at 13:33 |
|
It shouldn't, plus they aren't going to be black. . . which might help a bit more in terms of visibility.
![]() 01/23/2014 at 13:33 |
|
It's so worth it
![]() 01/23/2014 at 13:37 |

They are nice, but I want to put those 500 bucks to something more helpful in my quest to become autocross master/track destroyer. Like Weds!!
![]() 01/23/2014 at 13:41 |
|
Yes it can be. Nasioc has a couple of tutorials of guys doing it. Although, my recommendation would be to use the stained glass paint instead of night shades because it cracks and bubbles over time
![]() 01/23/2014 at 13:44 |
|
Stained glass paint? Gotcha. There is a DIY on the frs forums, but only one. I shall go a searching!
![]() 01/23/2014 at 15:07 |

Yup, but it works well. And clear it so it's more resistant to fade.
This is what it looks like
Here's a guide if you need one, and here's how to remove it if you want a change

Mmmmmm, that looks gooooood. Definitely going to do this when I replace my headers.

I'm buying Tom's or Valenti tails. I've grown to not hate the stock tails so much, but man are they a let down compared to the rest of the car.
![]() 01/24/2014 at 22:57 |
|
I would go with Tom's they look awesome, and they are JDM! So extra street cred.
I would love to buy a set but 500 bucks is a bit steep. I might do some stained glass paint on the lights. I think it looks awesome, and it is like 20 bucsk
![]() 01/25/2014 at 00:24 |

That looks pretty damn awesome! I prefer that to the vinyl, it's worth the extra work IMO.
